      The oldest person who is still alive is Besse Cooper livin in the USA, who is 115 years and 308 days old. The oldest person who has ever lived was Jeanne calment, of France, who died aged 122 years and 164 days.

      On 4 August 1997 Jeanne Calment died, aged 122 years 164 days. She has the longest confirmed human life span in history and lived in France!

      There are some areas of the world where there are lots of people who are reported to reach great ages. Those areas usually have two properties: poor records of when babies were born, and the habit of giving children exactly the same name as their parents.

      Improvements in health and scientific research will probably develop ways to allow us to live longer and it’s believed that many of your generation will live to be 100 or more … which at the moment is uncommon.
